In a bit of a rarity, all 4 games scheduled in the AL today ended with complete game shutouts for the pitchers on the winning teams. New York's Whitey Ford had the best outing, throwing a 1-hitter against the potent Boston Red Sox. Chicago's Dick Donovan flirted with a no-hitter against the Kansas City Athletics, but finished allowing 3 hits. Baltimore's Mike Fornieles also threw a 3-hit shutout and Detroit's Frank Lary's win was his 22nd of the season.

Whitey Ford shut down the Boston batters on just 1 hit as the New York Yankees
outscored the Boston Red Sox 6 to 0.
Ford(9-6) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Boston hitters.
He didn't give up much, just 1 hit and 3 walks in 9 innings reducing his ERA
from 4.56 to 4.29. New York managed only 6 hits on the afternoon.
Tom Brewer(13-5) was hit with the loss. He was a hard-luck loser, pitching 4
and 1/3 innings and not allowing an earned run.
'All of my pitches were working today,' Ford said. 'I felt really good out
there, and heck, I think I could have gone longer.'

Dick Donovan didn't allow a hit until the 7th inning and Larry Doby blasted a
homerun and had 2 RBI at Municipal Stadium where the Chicago White Sox beat
the Kansas City Athletics by the score of 5 to 0.
Donovan(16-4) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the Kansas City offense.
He surrendered only 3 hits and no walks in 9 innings. The right-handed
Donovan lost his chance for a no-hitter when Eddie Robinson singled with two
outs in the 7th inning. Chicago had a total of 8 hits for the game.
Wally Burnette(2-4) ended up with the loss. He pitched 6 innings allowing 7
hits and 1 walk.
WASHINGTON AT BALTIMORE

Gus Triandos cracked 2 homeruns and Mike Fornieles recorded a complete game
shutout as the Baltimore Orioles destroyed the Washington Senators by a score
of 11 to 0 at Memorial Stadium.
Triandos enjoyed a great evening at the plate. Every time he came up in the
latter innings, the crowd was on their feet cheering. He launched a Grand
Slam homerun in the 1st inning, singled in the 6th inning and clubbed a solo
home run in the 8th inning. Baltimore banged out 12 hits on the night.
Fornieles(5-2) was credited with the shutout, his first of the year. The
losing pitcher was Camilo Pascual(3-14). He allowed 3 homeruns in 5 and 1/3
innings of work.
The Baltimore ballclub's record now stands at 46-66. With the loss, the
Washington ballclub's record is 35-76, worst in the league.

Frank Lary hurled a fine complete game shutout as the mighty Detroit Tigers
beat the Cleveland Indians by a score of 7 to 0.
Al Kaline enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He smashed a two-run homer in
the 6th inning and doubled bringing home two baserunners in the 9th inning.
Detroit rapped out 9 hits for the night.
Lary(22-4) went the distance for the shutout. Bob Lemon(13-10) was given the
loss. He surrendered 7 runs and 9 hits in 8 and 2/3 innings.
