Chicago fell behind quickly as the Milwaukee offense came through in the first
inning plating 2 runs using 2 hits. After an out was recorded, Johnny Logan
was the sparkplug when he tripled. Eddie Mathews next to the plate and he
smashed a two-run homer. That was all the offense they were to need. The
pitchers took over after the 2nd inning as neither team was able to score
again.
Burdette(1-0) went the distance for the shutout. Bob Rush(0-1) was the losing
pitcher. He allowed 9 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings.

The Cincinnati fans enjoyed the offense provided by Post. He stroked a
one-base hit in the 2nd inning, smashed a solo-shot out of the park in the
4th inning and blasted a solo shot in the 7th inning. St. Louis had a chance
in the 9th but they came up short.
Nuxhall(1-0) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 3 runs. The losing
pitcher was Vinegar Bend Mizell(0-1). He served up 3 homeruns in his 8

Birdie Tebbets was in a talkative mood in the clubhouse, 'Great game! If only
we could win all of the close ones - wouldn't that be nice! Since that's not
going to happen, I think I'll savor this one for a little while.'
