Bill Skowron knocked 3 homeruns and had 6 RBI as the New York Yankees topped
the Detroit Tigers by a score of 11 to 6 at Yankee Stadium.

It seemed that Detroit pitching was serving up softballs for Skowron to hit.
He clubbed a solo home run in the 2nd inning, lost the ball over the fence
for three runs in the 3rd inning and hit a bases-empty home run in the 5th
inning. New York had 11 hits overall, while Detroit had 8.

Rip Coleman(2-0) allowed no runs in 5 innings, and picked up the victory.
Steve Gromek(1-2) was tagged with the loss. He surrended 3 homeruns in his 3
and 2/3 innings.

'They made a couple of mistakes and I took full advantage,' Skowron said 'next
time I'm sure they'll pitch me tougher.'
