1956 NL Game of Note: Phi. at Pit.

The strangest batting stance I ever saw. Stan Lopata, Phillies ...Sept. 2, 1956

Philadelphia catcher Stan Lopata had a great day at the plate today hitting 3 HR and picking up 5 RBI. The veteran Lopata also had a single in the 3rd, giving him 4 hits in a game that saw the Phillies crush the Pittsburgh Pirates 11-1.

Catcher Stan Lopata smacked 3 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Curt Simmons
delivered 9 solid innings as the Philadelphia Phillies smashed the
overmatched Pittsburgh Pirates, 11 to 1.
 
Lopata was really in 'the zone'. He hit a bases-empty home run in the 1st
inning, delivered a one-base hit in the 3rd inning, rifled a three-run blast
in the 6th inning and smashed a solo-shot out of the park in the 8th inning.
Philadelphia kept the scorekeepers busy in the 6th inning with 5 runs on 5
hits.  Philadelphia finished with 20 hits in the victory.  
 
Simmons(9-10) lasted until the end allowing 1 run for the win. Vern Law(7-14)
absorbed the loss.  He was knocked around by Philadelphia, allowing 11 hits
and 2 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.  
 
With this win, Philadelphia has a 58-68 record.  They have been 7-3 lately.
With this loss, Pittsburgh has a 4-6 record of late, 53-77, worst in the
league overall.
