It was a real slugfest in Memorial Stadium where the Baltimore Orioles finally
out-scored the Boston Red Sox by a score of 14 to 13 in.

Billy Gardner had a big evening at the plate. He cleared the fences for a
two-run home run in the 4th inning, doubled scoring two baserunners in the
5th inning and stroked a single resulting in a run in the 6th inning. Boston
was out-hit by Baltimore, 18 hits to 13.

The winning pitcher was George Zuverink(5-1) who allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3
innings. Hal Brown got the save, his 5th. The losing pitcher was Tom
Hurd(4-5) in relief.

Gardner was jubilant after the game 'Let me see a box-score' he joked, 'I want
to see how that game looks on paper.'
