1956 NL Game of Note: Brk. at St. L. Slugfest

June 12, 1956

In the highest scoring 9 inning game so far this season in the NL, 9 homeruns were hit in 16-7 St. Louis victory over the Brooklyn Dodgers. The ball was flying out of Sportsman's Park as the two teams combined for 23 runs on 26 hits. The Cardinals Wally Moon hit 2 HR and had 5 RBI. With the win, St. Louis pulled within 2 games of the NL leading Dodgers.

Wally Moon smashed 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI at Sportsman's Park as the St.
Louis Cardinals beat the Brooklyn Dodgers by the count of 16 to 7.
 
Moon made sure the St. Louis fans enjoyed themselves.  He smashed a
bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 3rd inning and belted a three-run homer in the
6th inning.  St. Louis bats were very productive in the 3rd inning with 4
runs on 3 hits and the 6th inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 4 hits.  St.
Louis finished with 14 hits in the victory.  
 
Murry Dickson(8-1) got the win allowing 6 runs in 5 innings. Jim Konstanty was
credited with his 1st save.  Sandy Koufax(1-2) was the losing pitcher.  He
was touched for 3 homeruns in his 1 and 2/3 innings of work.
