The Detroit Tigers defeated the Boston Red Sox 9-8 today and clinched 1st place in the AL. In a wild game that saw the Red Sox come back time after time, the Tigers finally pulled out the win with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning. A single, a walk, and a run scoring double by Harvey Kuenn was what it took for Detroit to win the game and the AL Pennant. Al Kaline had a big game for the Tigers, going 4 for 5 with 2 HR and 3 RBI. Paul Foytack came on in relief to close the door against the Red Sox and got the win, his 16th of the season.
