1956 World Series Game 4: Brooklyn Wins the Series!

Jackie Robinson - ThingLinkThe Brooklyn Dodgers are the 1956 World Series Champions! The Dodgers defeated the Detroit Tigers 9-5 to sweep the Series. Detroit was a slight favorite heading in the World Series due to their record hitting and scoring during the regular season. But it was Brooklyn that out hit and out pitched the Tigers. In game 4 today Brooklyn got out to an early 2-0 lead. Detroit's bats finally woke up in the 4th inning scoring 5 runs and chasing Dodger starter Don Newcombe. Red Wilson hit a 3-run homer and Al Kaline added a 2-run shot for the Tigers. But Brooklyn came right back in the top of the 5th inning scoring 6 runs and retaking the lead 8-5. The big hit was Roy Campanella's 3-run homer. Campy hit 2 homeruns in the game and had 4 RBI. The Brooklyn bullpen got their first opportunity to pitch in the Series and shut down the Tigers the rest of the game.

Lary(0-2) suffered the loss.  He allowed Brooklyn 7 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings
of work.
