Sal Maglie allowed just 3 hits at Ebbets Field where the Brooklyn Dodgers beat
the Detroit Tigers by the score of 3 to 2.

The game was won by Brooklyn with a run in the bottom of the 8th inning. Duke
Snider smashed a solo-shot out of the park. Jackie Robinson followed and he
drew a walk. Walt Masterson then uncorked a wild one that found its way to
the backstop. Gil Hodges dug into the batters box next, but he struck out.
After another out, Charlie Neal got his turn next, but he was a strikeout
victim. The Detroit batters didn't put up a fight in the 9th.

The victory was credited to Maglie(1-0) who went the distance, allowing 2
runs. The losing pitcher was Masterson(0-1) in relief.
