1956 AL Game of Note: NY at Chi.

Yogi Berra's Brilliant Advice - Improvised LifeMay 19, 1956

It was a scoreless affair for 14 innings in a game between the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox. In the top of the 15th, Yankee Yogi Berra (pictured) hit a grand slam homerun and New York held on to win 4-0. Tom Sturdivant pitched 6 2/3 innings of outstanding scoreless relief for the Yankees and picked up the win. Jerry Dahlke took the loss for Chicago.

Tom Sturdivant(2-0) contained Chicago in a 15 inning day game.  The New York
Yankees scored scored 4 runs in a winning effort at Comiskey Park.
 
The score was a scoreless tie after nine.  Finally, New York prevailed in the
15th inning.  The key offensive moment was provided by Yogi Berra who
silenced the stadium when he launched a Grand Slam homerun.  New York and
Chicago each finished the afternoon with 14 hits.  
 
Jerry Dahlke(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief.  With this win, New York
has a 14-16 record.  They have been 6-4 lately.  With the loss, Chicago has a
