Early Wynn carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning and Al Smith collected 2
extra-base hits and had 3 RBI as the Cleveland Indians defeated the
Washington Senators 9 to 0 at Municipal Stadium.

Wynn(5-1) was virtually untouchable. He was stingy on the mound, allowing
just 1 hit and 1 walk in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 2.25 to 1.87. The
right-handed Wynn lost his chance for a no-hitter when Clint Courtney doubled
with one out in the 6th inning. Cleveland had a total of 13 hits for the
game.

Dean Stone(1-4) was hit with the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering 7
runs in 4 innings. 'Wynn was the man tonight,' Al Lopez said. 'He had just
about every pitch working.'
