1956 AL Game of Note: Bal. at KC

Kansas City pitcher Lou Kretlow threw a 1-hitter today against the Baltimore Orioles and the Athletics came away with a close 1-0 victory. Lou walked 5 but didn't give up a hit until the 6th inning. Kansas City scored a run in the 7th and that was all they needed while Kretlow was throwing his gem.

Lou Kretlow didn't allow a hit until the 6th inning at Municipal Stadium as
the Kansas City Athletics beat the Baltimore Orioles by the count of 1 to
0.
 
Kretlow(3-3) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Baltimore
hitters.  He allowed just 1 hit and 5 walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA
from 5.06 to 3.95.  The right-handed Kretlow lost his no-hit bid when Dave
Philley singled with two outs in the 6th inning.  Kansas City managed only 5
hits on the night.  
 
Jim Wilson(2-2) was tagged with the loss.  He gave up 1 run and 4 hits in 7
innings.
